One laptop - 2 networks

Hi there,
I am setting up remote access for a user so they can work from home.
They will only be doing this one day and working in our office the rest
of the time.

The user has an ADSL connection from home that they will connect a VPN
to our firewall & then use terminal services.

Internally, the user will use their laptop to connect to the internet
through our default gateway address (example) 192.168.1.1

We have provided them with a router device to be used from their home
which I have set up with a local IP address of 192.168.1.100

Both of these addresses are on the same subnet so there is no issue
with the ip address/subnet mask on the laptop.

Obviously for the user to be able to access the internet (and
subsequently use the VPN) the default gateway has to be changed to the
IP address of the router on site. This is a nuisance and something I
would like to avoid. Is it possible to set the router in the home to
have the same local IP as our own office default gateway (both
192.168.1.1)? Or would this cause an issue when connected up throught
the VPN/Terminal Services session?

Alternatively how could I set up the additional default gateway with
metrics to use the office default gateway when possible but switch to
the second (home) gateway Ip when needed?

Thanks for any help and advice.

1. the home and office IP range should be different. otherwise, he may have a problem to access the office network.
2. By default, VPN gateway will be low # than the home gateway. that means all traffic will go to the office. However you may modify the default settings.

Don't send e-mail or reply to me except you need consulting services. Posting on MS newsgroup will benefit all readers and you may get more help.

Does the VPN client not know whats on the VPN and waht's not? I'd imagine it
will do. Why not set the router up with a differnet subnet, 192.168.2.0/24.
The VPN should know that 192.168.1.0/24 traffic goes over the VPN, and the
rest of it gets forwarded to the gateway, ie the rotuer.
