Old Posts just don't go away!

Hi:

I am reading (and posting) on a XP machine using OE.6.

I have done what I thought necessary to cause the old posts to be deleted
after 10 days.

BUT the old posts just stick about!

I now have over 100,000 headers for this NG on my machine!

What to do, what to do.

The MS News servers have recovered from a lot of problems lately that have
caused some strange behavior.

Take a look here:

If you are referring to the setting under Maintenance to delete after xx
days, that only removes the message body.
Create a news message rule to delete over xx days.
Have the rule unchecked.
Select the rule and click the Apply Now button.
Select the newsgroup or server.
After you delete, File, Folder, Compact.
Manually apply the rule periodically.

Specifically, what have you done to cause old posts to be deleted?

Was it: Menu: Tools/Options Tab: Maintenance screen.

Also, have you tried to click the "clean up now" button? What was the
result when you did this?

If you only want to receive new posts, set the synchronize accounts to new
messages only. That way, you'll only get the last 300 posts and no later. After
you have run through the 300 posts and deleted them from the message store,
resync your news account, and you should get =<300 posts after that assuming
there are less than 300 posts within the time you last did your synchronization.

Call me ungodly lazy, but sometimes I just Unsubscribe and Resubscribe.
(It feels really good when I do this.)
