OL2007: HTML vs. Richtext format.. I wan to use HTML always..

Dan

Hi there,

I am using exclusively HTML format for emails, sometimes plain text when I
reply.

I just realized that when I reply to an email that arrived in my inbox as
Outlook Richtext format, my reply is as well in Richtext format. I often use
screeshots in my messages. Those are JPG files which have a decent size.
Now, if I paste a 200kb JPG file into an HTML message, the message size
blows up to about 400k. I would have expected less size for the email, but
that's absolutely acceptable if I compare the same with Richtext.

If I paste the same picture to a Richtext format email, it blows up to an
incredible 4MB !!!!

So, either I have very strange Richtext settings (which I could not find) or
der is something else wrong..

However, as I am using HTML, my question is actually simple. How can I make
sure that outgoing mail from me is always HTML, even if I reply to a
Richtext message?

Thanks

Dan

in tools, options, mail format you can set outlook to always convert rtf to
html for internet email. The reason RTF is so much larger is because the
image is converted to a native word format, not sent as jpg.

thanks diane,

I already had this option behind the "Internet Format..." button set to
"Convert to HTML format".

But it seems that this is not working as I am on an Exchange Server network
and most, if not all of my recipients are on the same or directly connected
Exchange servers. The way I understand the option is that it converts to
HTML only if the receiver is reachable by SMTP only.

somewhere in the help file it says the following:
----------------
You can change the format for only the messages sent to a contact with an
SMTP e-mail address. An SMTP e-mail address contains the @ symbol - for
example, (e-mail address removed). If you are using a Microsoft Exchange Server
e-mail account and sending to another person in your organization who is
also using an Exchange Server account, this feature is not available.
----------------

Can I eventually create some kind of ("pre-send")rule that converts my
emails to HTML before I hit the send button?

Right. it only applies to messages sent outside. there is no way to change
it, short of manually changing it, when you are sending to someone on your
own exchange server.

Rather than inserting images into the email, can you attach them?

I am going to make it a habit to change it manually to HTML. I anyway wantet
to work on a makro to setup some stuff before i start writing replies..
hmm.. I could create a makro that I would use instead of the reply button..
it would do the same, but also change the message format. i need to think
about this. my VBA knowledge is limitted. but I still have your Outlook 2000
Programming somewhere. :) something that simple should be achieveable.. I
hope..

I'd rather do not want to attsch the screenshots. sometimes I need to
describe a flow of actions. that's best done with text and inline
screenshots.

thanks anyway.
