OL 2003 screen flashes

I have a customer that is experiencing screen flashes in
OL 2003 in the Inbox portion of the screen. He states
that the messages in his Inbox section are flashing. He
states that the tree on the left is not flashing. I have
had him open up MS Word and it is fine. He opens up the
individual messages and they are fine. Again, the only
problem is with the Inbox portion.

I've seen it off and on too, usually when I'm pushing the limit for
resources. I haven't yet pinpointed the program that causes it, but I think
it's more than just low resources as it doesn't always happen. Restarting
outlook always fixes it for me.

Went to customer's site and found if I clicked on one of
the messages and held down left mouse button, flickering
quit.

I then checked time/date, and found that Internet Time
sync had been turned off and the year was 2884. changed
date to correct and problem stopped.

I have started to see this behavior since I installed XP SP2. The screen
flashes twice for each selected message. If I select 30 messages, it will
flash 60 times. Retstarting Outlook 2003 often does not fix the problem.

However, Tom's suggestion to hold down the left mouse key does fix it.
After doing this, the problem disappears on subsequent selects.
