OL 2003-error reading reminders

Recently had Office 2003 installed on my Windows XP system. I'm getting an
odd error on Outlook startup, plus I get an "Outlook failed" notification on
the system tray icon for Outlook, which is obviously related (How can I get
rid of that system tray icon, btw? I don't need it since I always have OL
showing on the task bar):

"There was a problem reading one or more of your reminders. Some reminders
may not appear. Cannot locate recurrence information for this appointment"

OK, I understand that it doesn't appear to like one of my recurring calendar
events, but "this appointment"? What appointment? There's no info as to
which one it is. I have a LOT of recurring calendar events. Of course none
of this error message shows up on the MS KB system. Any thoughts on how I
can troubleshoot this?

TIA

did you try using the /cleanreminders switch?

close outlook, at start menu, run type:

outlook.exe /cleanreminders
and press enter.

No, I didn't, wasn't aware of it! I tried it tho, and it seems to have
worked :) What exactly is it for, Diane?

Thanks!

Spoke too soon :( It did indeed stop the error msg from occurring after I
ran it, then restarted Outlook. However, the next time I logged in (to
Windows) and started Outlook, it came back.

What exactly is happening to cause this error??

Thanks

Followup:

As noted I am no longer getting reminders AT ALL in OL2K3. However, upon
research, I think this problem comes from syncing with my PDA using the
default Itellisync Lite program. Apparently, and I was NOT aware of this,
the default version does not work correctly OL2K3. There is an upgrade,
which I *think* may allow this, but I'm not sure of that. I was told that if
I did a sync before applying that upgrade, it would "hose Outlook 2003".
Great.

I have applied the upgrade now, and went thru the process of removing ALL
reminders on both my Outlook and my PDA in hopes of getting it back to
square one, but I've found that I have some recurring items that don't show
up in the monthly/weekly views in the calendar, but they do show up in a
search for them. I can not delete it however, as it says it can't find the
recurrence info for it. Well, duh :) So how can they be deleted? I am fairly
sure that these probably corrupted items are most likely at least
contributing to my problems.

We tried to repair and also reinstall Outlook but that didn't help. I still
get the "problems with a recurrence" message if I don't start up OL with the
/cleanreminders option, and I still can't get any reminders at all to show
up.

Any suggestions?
