Indeed outlook.exe process does not close after I exit Outlook. This seems
to
be the problem. I read the FAQ page you suggested (even though the link
you
posted didn't work for some reason). The FAQ isn't updated for Outlook
2007
so I still don't know how to reach the add-in menu. Also - once I'm there,
how can I know which add-in is causing this? elimination?

When Outlook is closed it cannot download any mail. Make sure the
outlook.exe process actually quites when you close Outlook. If not see;

How can I disable email downloading (POP) when outlook is closed?
I have Outlook 2007, and I made sure that both checkmarks under
Tools|Options|Mail Setup|Send/Receive|"When outlook is Offline"
are unmarked
