Office XP Boot

M

Miguel

I have a gateway 2000 and it was upgraded to Office Xp
Professional and I can't run the computer.

I get a blue screen that says:

A probelm has been detected and windows has been shutdown
to prevent damage to your computer

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

The it says to try to boot the computer in safe mode but
the same blue screen comes on.

Also it says:
Technical Information:

....STOP: 0x000000ED (0x8139EB20, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000,
0x00000000)

I don't have the windows xp disc so I can't try to
reinstall and I really don't want to lose all my files on
the computer. What can I do? I tried calling Gateway
computers but it says that XP is a 3rd party software and
they won't provide support.

Please help.

Miguel;
Where is your CD?
You will probably need the Windows XP CD.

Power off
Desktop:...Open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at
both ends.
Laptop:... simply remove and reinsert the hard drive.
If that fails:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=297185
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315403

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and
download their hard drive diagnostics.

Do you have a hard drive overlay such as Max Blast?
Windows XP sometimes has issues with overlay software.
You may need to perform a Clean Installation without their overlay
software which is not needed anyway.

1st Question - what color is the hard drive IDE ribbon
cable?

2nd - According to: http://support.microsoft.com/?
kbid=297185 I need to enter a some kind of cmd prompt,
how can I do that if I can't even type anything anywhere?

If I can't get the CD does that mean I have to buy the
whole cd?
