I'm trying to update MS Office to SP3 (for FrontPage 2002), but I receive an
error message:

Error 1402 - Setup Cannot Open the Registry Key
HLM. . . \OptionalComponents\IMAIL
Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry . . .

What is IMAIL? How do I get it?

have you done what it says, using regedt32?
