Office documents take too long to open after Win2K SP4

Yesterday I appled SP4 to both our Windows 2000 Servers.
One is a domain controller the other is a terminal server.
Today when my users try to open word documents and excel
files, it takes an unusually long time. Why is this
happening and how do I fix it?

Thanks, David

Before going too far, check that it's NOT because of the latest Norton
Anti-virus system update.

After updating to the January 7th or 8th virus definitions, your computer slows down and
Microsoft Word and Excel will not start

Situation:
This document describes this problem and how to fix it.

Solution:
Symantec is investigating the cause of the problem at this time.

There is a workaround that will fix the problem until Symantec finds a permanent solution.

To use the workaround

1.. Close all programs.
2.. Start Internet Explorer.
3.. Click Tools > Internet Options.
4.. On the Advanced tab, scroll down through the list box to the Security section.
5.. Deselect the "Check for publisher's certificate revocation" option as shown here:

Noton has probably cost computer users worldwide in terms of lost
productivity more than all but a select handful of viruses has with
this major screw-up. Time to look for a half decent AV software. Any
suggestions?

I ended up uninstalling NAV2003 and reinstalling it on the
clients. That fixed it. I noticed when I logged on as
the local admin there was no problem. Only when I logged
on as the user. Strange.

Thanks for your help. David
