Office Data Provider error

When I go to a certain sports website, I get a heading at the top with an
ActiveX control. It says:"Office Data Provider for WBEM Microsoft
Corp(unverified publisher)". While this is displayed, Microsoft Office 2000
Premium edition trys installing. I let it go all the way through once and it
then asked for the disk. I don't have the Premium edition, just regular
Office. This only occurs the first time I go to the website. If I visit the
site later in the same day, it doesn't happen again. How do I correct this
problem? Thanks.

It is their actixeX code that is at fault. Not much you are going to do at
your end to correct the code for that object. If it relies on a dll or ocx
only available in Premium, you would have to buy it to avoid the need to
error on install before it ran.
I would look in '%windir%/Downloaded Progrem Files' folder for an object
like that you might be able to rightclick, and 'update' manually.

I went to the website today and the Active X add-on is gone but Office
Premium still trys to install. I did a check and I do indeed already have
Office Premium installed already. What would happen if I insert the CD-ROM
when it asks for it on the website? Thanks again.

Your Browser Options has a way to disable "third party browser extensions".
That might stop the install attempt. What putting in the CD would do would
have to be tried to know.

I disabled the third party extension but it still popped up. It also said
that it needs a certain file to install. I'll have to write it down. Would
deleting that file solve the problem?

It looks like you just don't have the file you need. Contacting the site
owner from a 'comments' link on thier site might do something. Hard to guess
what that extension might want. Only the creator of the site wouldf really
know. Good luck.

I took a chance and inserted Office Premium to see what would happen. Well,
it took a while to finish so I stopped it but not before it loaded a pdf995
file from a website. It was nothing more that a "parasite" attchment; it
wanted Office loaded so it could add it's product. I deleted the file and
went to www.nflcountdown.com and a window tried to come up but was blocked.
The install window didn't come up! Hopefully, that's the last of it so if
anyone else encounters it, that may be the fix. I'll keep everyone updated.
Thanks for the responses and suggestions!
