Office 2003 updates

Office 2003 updates fail. I get an error message 1603 pertaining to the msi
installer.
How can I correct this problem? I've tried re-installing Office 2003 but was
not allowed to do that either.

The problem is not with MS Office but with Windows Installer.You have either
too old version or your has been damaged.The latest version is 3.1
Open Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and check if you have this 3.1
version.

and update it
