Office 2003 not responding when editing contacts

I have a new Dell Latitude (year old) with Vista and Office 2003 installed.
The problems I have with Outlook 2003 are these: each time I edit a contact,
or edit a calendar appointment, Outlook freezes (not responding) for maybe up
to 30 seconds before the action is taken. Frustrating.

Secondly, Outlook does not open immediately. It usually takes at least
three or five minutes for Outlook to "get settled" before allowing me to even
click on the Inbox to read emails. If I try to get into email too quickly
after starting Outlook, I get a "not responding" message that lasts 3-5
minutes or the program locks permanently until I restart Outlook or the
computer.

I have done some basic registry cleaning. I have also streamlined my email
folders by deleting old ones with large attatchments or archiving them sooner
than before. The problem persists.

Are we to assume that Outlook 2003 once worked and now doesn't? If so, post
the steps used to produce this behavior. You've provided no troubleshooting
information. This didn't just happen all by itself for no reason. Tell the
rest of your story.

Parts of my story may actually bore you, but I'll try to stick to the
computer parts and see what you can do to help! Outlook 2003 once worked
fine with Vista - in the beginning. Then one day it started to slow down. I
don't know why. I'm not sure what troubleshooting information you need, but
I'll try to add some clues to the mystery.

My Computer: Dell Latitude, 1.66 GHz Core2 CPU, 1014 MB RAM, "Vista capable"
when bought from Dell about 3 weeks before Vista was released

a. When opening Outlook, it takes 3-5 minutes to load fully before I can
click on anything (email, contacts, calendar, etc)
b. If I click on email, contacts, or calendar too soon after opening
Outlook, I receive a "not responding" message which either clears itself
after a few minutes or causes Outlook to freeze.
c. No matter how long Outlook has been open, if I make ANY changes in
Calendar or Contacts (add new or edit existing), I get a 'not responding'
message, which freezes Outlook completely, and it often takes about two-three
minutes before the message clears and then I can continue with editing
calendar or contacts.
d. I have done the following to no avail: Detect and Repair in Outlook,
Inbox Repair Tool, adjusted the AutoArchive settings, Defrag, Scandisk, and
Disk Cleanup.

I hope this helps you help me...

do you have an addins installed? And applications that access outlook data?
(including Dell's Media Direct feature).

Media Direct issues are not limited to recurring meetings - see

information.
