Windows XP Home Edition is an "operating system". Office 2003 is
an application program you install on your Windows XP operating system.
If you remove Windows XP, you'll be unable to install Office 2003 since
Office 2003 is not an operating system.

No, of course not. If you want to install Office (*any* version
of Office) you have to install it within your operating
system--in your case Windows XP Home. If you uninstalled Windows
XP, you would have to reinstall some other operating system
before you could install Office or any other application
software.

you may have to uninstall any earlier versions of Microsoft Office if your
copy of 2003 is not the upgrade version, but you certainly donot have to
uninstall your operating system (OS). you should make sure however that you
are not running any OS prior to Windows XP/2000 as Office 2003 will not run
under Windows98, 98SE or 95 and probably not NT either (you will have to
check that if need be).
