Greetings --

You need to examine the Product Key very carefully. It's awfully
easy to mistake a "B" for an "8," a "G" for a "6," an "S" for a "5,"
or a "Q" for a "0" or "O." Fortunately, Microsoft had the good sense
to leave the "1's," "I's," "O's," and "0's" out of the equation.
Also, be sure that your CapsLock if _off_ while entering the Product
Key.

Why are you blaming XP for an Office problem?

Why blame XP? Because Microsoft made both products. If in
XP you cant install a program that works with
98,98se,ME,and 2000... why not XP? Office 2000 had no
problems with any other OS. I didnt mean to blame anyone
it is just awful that XP cant work around this. I have
the cd's, I have licence to them... I shouldnt have to
purchase office 2003 because no one can help me install
2000 in XP. There must be an easy solution out there. I
have just exhausted my resouces.

You are definitely having an atypical experience trying to install your
Office 2000. Normally, it installs and runs smoothly with XP. There should
be no reason to have to purchase Office 2003 because of a problem with you
product key. Since your computer is a Dell, there could even be proprietary
software that somehow interferes with your installation of Office, but this
is unlikely. Keep in mind that your experience is not usual, and I hope the
tech support folks you are paying can help you soon.
PS: Have you posted on an Office 2000 newsgroup? They might be the most
likely to have encountered your problem in the past.

Agreed. I run Office 2000 SBA without any problems.

Your problem is that Office will not accept your CD key. This has
nothing to do with XP.

Mahy people ( including me ) have installed and use Office 2000
without any trouble. From Office97 to current installs on XP.

Have you checked the CD fro dirt or scratches? Maybe your CD drive
needs a cleaning. All we can really tell you is that Office 2000 should
and does run on XP.

I currently am running office 2000 with no problems as well as windows
XP...whatever your problem is it isn't that the two are incompatible with
each other it must be something else.
