Product Key

I want this to be a clean install on a Dell computer I have. There were 2
systems running on it Windows 2000 professional and Windows XP Home Version.
Well I believe I successfully deleted the 2000 which is what I wanted. My
dilemma is I do not have the product key for the loaned version of Windows XP
I am using. This thing won't install without that damn key. Asked the guy
for it who loaned me the CD and he said NO! How stupid is that. I had both
originially installed on this computer and knew that 2000 would go.
Unfortunately that puts me in the position of not being able to get the
product key I need off of whatever version of XP it is. Don't want to pay any
money and the puter doesn't have any stickers on it and I have no paperwork
or anything of that sort to give me the first clue. Already called Dell and
Microsoft and they say they can't generate me a new product keys they are
liars because I had it done once before and just yesterday someone tried to
give me a new one over the phone. HELP! Product keys anyone? Don't have the
original CD or access to one since a friend gave me the puter.

You'll need to purchase a genuine "Full Version" of Windows
XP in order to complete the installation with the proper CD
and the Product Key that comes with it. Otherwise, you are
out of luck since you do not have a genuine Windows XP
license without the genuine Windows XP CD.

What you are saying is that you do not even have proof you purchased Windows
XP at all - you have a borrowed Windows XP CD and since it is a Dell - it
likely came from the factory with an OS installed and they are saying they
cannot help you either (they are the ones who support the OEM OSes they
install on their computers.)

Essentially - someone (who ever gave you the computer without a way to
install the OS back on it) took you for a ride or you somehow lost
everything that would be of use to you in performing a re-install. Other
than finding a CD Key on the internet and using that illegitimate (for your
use) key or biting the bullet and purchasing (and properly storing) a new
copy of the OS and CD Key - you are SoL.

Your friend let you borrow the CD - they have no requirement to allow you to
use the license they paid for as well.

Then, it's your alleged "friend" who "owns" the license to that
software and not you: YOU have no rights to it and HE and YOU
are both guilty of piracy, a crime punishable by fines and a jail
term.
All you had/have to do is read the licensing terms and you'll
know all you need to know. Meanwhile, you'll have to spring for
a legal copy of it if you want to use it. What you have is not
legal and even if you get it installed, it won't be updatable at
Microsoft.

Why do you believe you should get your Product Key for free? Did you
previously own one?

"they are liars because I had it done once before"
Then the circumstances were different the other time.
If necessary, I can get a replacement key for my Windows XP, but my
circumstances would be different than yours.

Nothing in your post suggests you are entitled to anything from anyone,
except possibly whoever sold you the computer.
But since you have no CD or even a Product Key, it is probable the computer
was sold to you without a legitimate OS..

If you want it, you need to buy it, just like all legitimate users.

Go buy your own copy of the OS.
