Offering Remote Assistance

Rick,

Can you answer this then.

Why was I able to Use my XP SP2 machine to remote assistance a Vista Machine
on my own network? I loaded up my dads new computer and while I had it I
tried remote assitance and had no issues.

His computer sent the invite, I entered in the password on my computer and I
was able to work on his computer through my xp machine on my own network
using seperate network cables from router from my cabem modem.

Then when I sent him his computer and we tried to use it across the country
it did not work.

Why did it work on my own network when everyone is saying that an XP machine
should not be able to assist a Vista machine?

Brian,
I too was able to remote assist a Vista client from an XP SP2 machine,
however we were on the same network as well. I think if anything you're just
having Firewall problems. You and your Dad should try out Hamachi
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi) to get past the firewall/NAT issues.

Also if you installed an Antivirus program like Symantec/Norton or McAffee
that could also have broken it (my problem).

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ben
