oem language installation problems

thanks for the advice. I'm confused now though. I've had
my system for 2 years now in the uk. I bought it brand
new at a staples branch here and its always been in
english. XP home came preinstalled in english but when I
used the recovery disk provided yesterday it has
installed in german! I've checked my manual and found my
pc was manufactured in germany. So if I accept the theory
that my copy of xp was written in german initially, how
come it has been in english since I bought it? i'd just
like it be working as it was 2 days ago!!

Greetings --

It sounds very much as if the wrong CD was included with the
computer when it was shipped from the manufacturer to the retailer.
Have you contacted the manufacturer about this matter?

There is no way to change from German to English.
Something was done wrong either in manufacturing and/or Staples.
Your best option is to contact the computer manufacturer to see what
they can do.

Otherwise you seem to have 2 other options.
1. Use the German edition
2. Buy Windows XP in English.

Since Windows is OEM, Microsoft will not be able to help.

If the manufacturer will not make good (try them first), go to Staples and
make a claim under the Sale of goods and Services act
(http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/saleandsupply.htm). Make sure you insist
that two years is a reasonable time, as the sytem worked fine for that long
and you would not expect to use the reset disk unless you had a serious
problem. UK law is quite clear on your consumer rights.
