OEM DISK WITH A SCRATCH

Trying to reinstall XP Home after 18 months, I get an error for
SXS.DLL Syntax error in manifast policy ... cyclic redundancy check, try
cleaning CD

Looks like I have a scratch.

I have a couple of copies of XP home that are upgrades and this one for the
machine I built.

Is there anyway to get around this problem short of buying a new copy

Contact the OEM to obtain a replacement?

Take it to a game shop, they can grind the scratch off, if not to
deep.

They don't guarantee that it will work, it took two separate grinds to
get one of my CD's to work.

You can also try using clear fingernail polish over the scratch. Also not
guaranteed to work.

Yet another not-guaranteed to work trick is toothpaste (which is
abrasive), lots of water, and the softest toothbrush you can find.
