Odd problems in XP

Hello, I am having some problems with XP

1. My printers have disappeared from "printers and faxes" but nowhere
else...ie I can still print. Using the add new printer wizard
hangs.

2. I cannot get to "local area connection properties" It hangs before the
window opens with explorer.exe pegging my processor.

3. I cannot get the volume control on my taskbar. I check the radio in
sound properties, click ok, and it seems to take it. But no volume control
in the taskbar, and when I reenter sound properties the check is gone.

As you can see, these are minor annoyances, but could the printer thing
could be major if I need to add a printer.

Sorry if I missed the answers somewhere, I tried to search but my skills may
not be up to par.

Thanks

This has all the hallmarks of a virus / spyware infection.

Have you done all the obvious checks with Anti-Malware software to make sure
you're fully clean?

If not, a repair of Windows XP may be your only solution.

Yes, all the normal checks..avg, adaware, hijak this. Nothing of note. What
exactly do you mean by 'repair'? I hope this isn't the dreaded wipe and
re-install.

It's not a full install, though you may lose some data or settings so
obviously back up as much as you can.

Check out the Microsoft knowledge base article KB315341 for some
instructions on repairing, it also lists some other pages for info regarding
data loss etc.

RJS,
did you ever get this resolved? I'm having a similar issue with printers
not showing up and "print wizard" not functioning but the computer still
prints.

Thanks in advance,
PRH
