Odd issue with AGP Texture Acceleration

Guest

My main problem is that it (AGP Texture Acceleration) for some odd reason
disappears every once in a while. most of the time its after my computer has
been left on. if i restart my computer it comes back...only to disappear
again later.....while its on my games work....as soon as its gone they stop
working and its becoming an annoyance.

Does anyone know what may be causing this? is this possibly a driver issue?
because now that i think of it my PSU was starting to go out and my stuff was
acting up i replaced the psu and my video card as the replacement psu wont
push my 9800 its only 240w, i thought it was an issue with a game installing
DX7 over DX9...its happened before with way different results. but as i said
now that i think about it
I never installed my motherboard drivers after doing a reinstall of windows
overtop of my previous install(DX9 is so frigging hard to do anything with
can't uninstall it or fix it by reinstalling it either)

I'm just crossing my fingers my AGP slot wasnt damaged.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated

Hi Cliffro,

Since you didn't install your motherboard drivers, the most likely
solution will be to update your motherboard chipset drivers which
are able to ensure consistent AGP accelerations: For more info:

Well i updated the driver its just my agp driver that comes with it, with the
same results. i found i could still play FEAR but C-n-C Generals still crashes

I'm about to replace my weaker PSU with one that will run my 9800 so i will
see if it is still present then after my bios in my new motherboard is
replaced i will see if its my AGP slot because i know the A8V's AGP works
flawlessly

I noticed the ref to C&C Generals so thought I might mention recent problem
with Tiberian Sun (another C&C title) I had.

Under 98SE had no problems but under XP game would crash immediately.
Compatibility mode with any/all checkboxs didn't seem to matter. I ended up
copying the folder from the 98SE box over the XP install. The game then
started no problem after that!

I suspect the problem is related to the default video mode the game tries to
use as it starts up. Reason is because I did notice two additional files on
the 98SE install that seemed to have been created after games first run.
Both were text files and one of them had a specific line specifying
resolution to use, which I had changed from default 640x480x to 800x600.
Under XP the game had no problem using that mode upon subsequent attempts to
startup hence no crash.

Just speculation but I'll include an except from my "sun.ini" (which seems
to not exist until first successfull startup) file anyways

ScreenHeight=600
