Odd Halo scenario

Installed Halo long time ago (least it seems it) on a PIII at 733Mz with 512
ram running 98SE. At that time, it would consistently crash when loading one
of the early maps. That problem wasn't resolved until I downloaded and
applied the 1.0->1.031 patch, then all was well.

Just got a significant upgrade in horsepower (2.8Gz, 2x512DDR,TI4800 etc.
etc.) so thought I'd retry Halo and see what I'd missed the first go round
where I'd had to tone down settings to make it playable.

Installed Halo and then went to install the patch I'd saved previously.
Patch refuses to install!!! Odd thing is, game doesn't crash without it
where it used to before!!!

Go figure???

Hi, I got a new setup and tried it with Halo without the patches and it
plays perfectly without any 'miming'. The only common components are the
soundcard, a Audigy Gamer, and the memory, all the rest is new. I agree, go
figure....

Sounds like a somewhat standard situation to me. When you were using Halo on
the computer you had before, you most likely had unsupported hardware, or
simply the computer was not fast enough. Now, with new hardware, the game
works fine without the patch, because the game is running on different
specifications.

P.S. : If you are having trouble installing patches, try downloading the
second-to-the-newest patch and let it update from that version.
