corrupted windows installer

i've tried all the msoft solutions to no avail. the installer does'nt show up
in the add/remove programs like it's supposed to. i believe the problem
started late last summer/early fall when xp updated from sp2 to sp3. i've
read where updating from sp1 to sp2 or sp3 can cause a folder/file in the mis
to be deleted somehow. i get the error msg. when a program that requires the
installer that says" verify installer pkg exists, verify its a valid
installer pkg, etc." does anyone know if there is a patch/hotfix for this?
otherwise i'm going to use RestoreIt to go back to the first static point.
i've used RestoreIt before & it works great, but i thought i'd try another
forum one last time. THANX for your time/help, anyone.

Installer usually wont show in add/remove.However,try run, type:msiexec
/unregister,return to run,type:msiexec /regserver Return to
run,type:services.msc In msc,scroll to installer,double click on it,set
its properties
to "auto start" from manual, start service, exit msc...

all the ways to correct this that msoft has on their site. also the win
istaller is already on "automatic", but thanx for the help anyway.
