I am running a generic laptop with XP Home SP1. Very occasionally my laptop
crashes without any warning. I have the auto restart turned off, and the
blue screen indicates a problem with a file called ALCXWDM.SYS. I let the
thing report to MS and after some months there is no further information on
their crash analysis site except to say that it is some sort of driver. I
suspect it is the sound card driver, but I'm not certain. I have gone all
through the sound card manufacturer's web site looking for a driver update,
or some sort of comment about this issue, without success. My emails to them
are apparently ignored, or maybe they're just too busy, or maybe it's not
their driver at all. The crash is only very occasional, and there seem to be
absolutely no common factors that I can see. Naturally, it only happens at
the worst possible times, and, although it is not frequent, I would simply
LOVE to hear from ANYONE who can shed some light on it for me.
