Obscured text

Hi there,

There is a problem on my colleague's copy of MS Word XP.
Every time he types text of any description, word throws
up a black block over the text he's typing, completely
obscuring the document.
It looks almost like the text is being highlighted except
that the text is not visible.
However, if for example he uses notepad and copies the
text over into the word document, the black block doesn't
show.
If he goes on to type any text, the block is back!

I've tried resetting his settings to default for font and
paragraph settings and removing all formatting that i can
see but no change.
I reinstalled office for him but the same problem is
apparent.
The rest of the applications are fine (apart from outllok
which has the same problem).

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks

Si

Find and delete ALL copies of NORMAL.DOT template.
Word will re-create it when next run.

Please don't advise users to delete Normal.dot, which can destroy years'
worth of customizations. Renaming Normal.dot will accomplish the same thing
and will allow users to retrieve most of their customizations (an exception
is customized toolbars and keyboard shortcuts) using the Organizer.
