NX 3.5 drive enclosure is USB 2.0 - but windows doesn't recognize it?

I have purchased a NX 3.5 inch drive and have a hard drive connected
to it. When it boots into Windows, WinXP tells me that it would
function faster if connected to a USB 2.0 port and shows me a list of
unused ports.
When I click on one of the unused port (which is all I am able to do,
right click has no menu), nothing happens. The hard drive does not
show up in explorer. Not sure what to do at this point. The drivers
that came with it say it already has built in drivers for XP and
doesn't need the CD.

Any way to test if this is a driver problem or a HD or the enclosure?
Thanks

Older computers may not have USB 2 ports, and would require an add-in
card. Sometimes the motherboard supports USB 2 but you need a driver
update from the manufacturer of the motherboard (possibly wasn't
available when the mb was released).

You could plug the external drive into another computer that you know
has working USB 2 ports to verify the drive is working properly.

It is a newer motherboard and the specs say it has usb 2.0 installed
on the motherboard, plus the only drivers are for WinME and Win98, not
XP.
It is a Asus p5p800 SE motherboard. I went to the driver site of ASUS
and I have the newest drivers. So I am not sure if there is a
conflict or something.

I also tried it on another computer with an ASUS M2N-E motherboard
which also lists that it is USB 2.0 compatible - so I am wondering if
I got a dud external enclosure or something...

The driver from the first link is 2005/09/27 - almost 2.5 years ago -
I have updated my driver since then, so that is not the problem. I
will read the link you sent me, I might need to download the drivers
from Windows - I wish it wasn't so hard to find them,,,
