NVIDIA Graphics Driver error

Saad Bataineh

Just recently, I am having a problem with my display. The problems I am
having are characterized as follow:

1.. Sometimes during boot the displayed information of booting status are
distorted and the lines are displayed with wrong characters. In other
instances discontinued vertical line are displayed across the screen.
2.. The log on screen sometimes freezes/hangs and can not continue with
signing in to my account.
3.. Once logged on, the monitor sometimes turns off and reboots back and
in other cases the system hangs. I get a frequent XP error report messages
and online crash analysis " the error was likely caused by: NVIDIA Graphics
Driver (nv4.sys) " and to download an update from MS update site and if not
available from NVIDIA update site.
I checked several times for viruses but the no viruses were found. I have
the following graphic adapter and driver:

Adapter : Nvidia GeForce 256 32 MB

Driver : nv4.sys ver. V.5.01.2001 date. July 01 2001

I could not find any updated at MS update site. I have updated the driver
from Nvidia site which is version 45.23 dated July 20, 2003. The problem was
not solved.

The following error message was reported by online crash analysis with
Nvidia driver V 45.23 installed:

Error Caused by Graphics Device Driver

Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078)

Now I rolled back to the old driver version Nvidia V.5.01

My system config is :

OS : Widow XP Prof

CPU: AMD Athlon 800 Mhz.

RAM: 384 MB

Display adapter: Nvidia Geforce 256

Is the problem a Hardware or software problem and how I can correct it?

Appreciate you Help;

Regards.
