Just purchased my first flat screen monitor. Can not get it to work with DVI
connection using windows updated driver for nivida. Monitor works if I use
the old driver but the old driver does not utilize the nvidia media center
thus I lose a lot of screen control. Using the the DVI, I get boot up dos
and windows loading screens but goes blank when windows loads. "Check video
cable" error dispays for about 3 seconds. Monitor works with cable and old
driver, so that tells me the cable is OK.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Manual is of no help,
monitor manufacture just says "thats strange". No support from nvidia
because it came with computer (Gateway). Gateway support is of no support.

What about getting the driver directly from the source, in your case,
Nvidia? Make sure you are getting the driver specifically made for your
Nvidia card. As for screen control, doesn't the monitor have its own
utilities for screen adjustments and tweaks? Is the display adaptor
recognizing the correct model of your LCD?

Hi Kevin, thanks for the response. I did get an updated driver from nvidia
web site, did the same thing. This latest one downloaded with WinXP update.
Monitor does have some on board adjustments, but contrast is not one of them.
As for adapter recognizing LCD model. How do you tell? In Device manager,
plug and play monitor is listed. Monitor did not come with any software. I
have heard the DVI connection is better quality then the vga, sure would like
to see. Would hrz refresh rate play into this problem?

Look on the gateway website for an .inf file for the monitor and install
that. Also as a general rule don't use windows udpates for drivers.
Get drivers from the hardware manufacturer's web site.

Device Manager should reflect the make and model of the monitor. For
instance, I have a Samsung SyncMaster 950p 19 inch CRT monitor. I have a
driver disk that Samsung included with the monitor. By installing the
specific drivers for my monitor I have better performance using it. Install
the drivers for your LCD instead of using the generic Windows drivers. The
digital output of the DVI interface will be a cleaner, sharper image (in
theory) than the analog output of the VGA connection.

I have seen some LCD's on display in Circuit City and asked to see both
inputs to compare. When I could acutally get a salesperson to do this for
me (another issue entirely) I saw little or no difference in the images
displayed. I was looking at only screensaver images on the displays at that
time.

I bought the thing at Radio shack and I asked about drivers, he said it
didn't come with any. I have to check on line to see what I can find. It's a
CTL 7G 17" TFT.
