Nv4_disp

Hi, I read thru other entries to see resolution for this error message
nv4_disp.

But before I update my driver; want to explain what happened as did not see
same in others.

Few days ago got that error message nv4_disp and infinite loop, and sys
restarted or I did, and all came up fine.

now, 3 days later; at today; i turn on sys, and in 6 or so attempts all
different problems occur;

on one start up 3 beeps, pc runs, no video

on another sys starts up; video fades (the video of windows xp starting)

on another 3 beeps and nothing.

all of these hang sooner or later somewhere in the start up sequence.

So, my question is;

for this nv4_disp error; I see the resolution is to update the graphics
driver; but do any of these start up problems above make any sense; occuring
3 days or so after the error message, no troubles until today on start up?

Thank you,
Casey

Hi Nass,

Thanks for your help! My question is; that today my system had many
problems starting up; approx. 7 attempts; and all starting differently; some
with 3 beeps at first; some loading all the way; then monitor shutting down;
or keyboard is not working etc.. so had many problems today; and it was about
3 days ago go the nv4_disp error.

No mention of the error in the start up problems; so my question is - before
i install the correct graphic update driver for my system; is my problems I'm
having today starting up; caused from this nv4_disp problem?

thanks

It could be and it could be due an overheating issue on your system or a
corrupt/damaged driver for a hardware!.
If you want to get the whole picture try to get the error messages in the
event viewer and have a peek in the Device manager to see if there is
malfunctioning devices or a conflict somewhere.

Have a look in the Event Viewer and send us the error messages you will see
there in your next post:
Open a Notepad, customize or minimize to the taskbar as you will need it
later for this step to copy the error message on it.
Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr.msc click [OK] you will get the Event viewer control Panel.
click on each of these:
Application
System
Security
Look in the right Pane/window for error message with red (X) or Yellow
exclamation mark /!\ , double click each one to get more info about the
causer.
On the Event error properties message you will see:
Up Arrow
Down arrow
Two pages
Click on the two pages to copy the error message then bring up the Notepad
you opened earlier and right click on the first line and select Paste from
the list, this will paste the error message on a Notepad.
Please don't duplicate the error message one of each kind will be sufficient.

I am a liitle dubious about overheating causing a boot problem unless it
occurs on restarting the computer after it has been running.

Those errors were 2 days ago have they repeated today? Errors more than
a day old are usually not worth investigating. Also unless the same
error repeats they are also not worth investigating. Many errors are
resolved by the simple process of restarting your computer.

This error if repeating is a real problem, which will need resolving:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: System Error
Event Category: (102)
Event ID: 1003
Date: 4/14/2008
Time: 9:39:51 AM
User: N/A

Description:
Error code 100000ea, parameter1 81200430, parameter2 ffbbf428,
parameter3 f968fcb4, parameter4 00000001.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Hope this helps.

Hi, funny I was just coming to write something and I had not seen your entry.

The start up this morning was after being off 10 plus hours; and so the
system was not hot.

One more note; is the last thing i recall doing before shutting down last
nite; was the microsoft updates (i get notified;and then i decide when to
install, and installed last nite.)

But what happened on start up.. all differnt problem in all those 7 or so
times.. some times on one; graphics quite fade. most time though; message on
monitor saying monitor was alright; but on other starts or even same; would
either shut down; or just go blank, not blue screen blank, just blank as if
off.. the 3 beeps at start up; got that twice.. the system having apparence
of being up; but not at all; no keyboard access; mouse not moving, etc.

so these were some of the variuos things occuring while trying to start up
today; again after being down over 10 hours; so the system was not hot.

Thanks,
Casey

I am a liitle dubious about overheating causing a boot problem unless it
occurs on restarting the computer after it has been running.

It could be and it could be due an overheating issue on your system
or a corrupt/damaged driver for a hardware!.
If you want to get the whole picture try to get the error messages in
the event viewer and have a peek in the Device manager to see if
there is malfunctioning devices or a conflict somewhere.

Have a look in the Event Viewer and send us the error messages you
will see there in your next post:
Open a Notepad, customize or minimize to the taskbar as you will need
it later for this step to copy the error message on it.
Open a run command and type in:

click on each of these:

Look in the right Pane/window for error message with red (X) or Yellow

the causer.
On the Event error properties message you will see:

Click on the two pages to copy the error message then bring up the

Hi Nass,

Thanks for your help! My question is; that today my system had many
problems starting up; approx. 7 attempts; and all starting
differently; some with 3 beeps at first; some loading all the way;
then monitor shutting down; or keyboard is not working etc.. so had

No mention of the error in the start up problems; so my question is

Hi, I read thru other entries to see resolution for this error
message nv4_disp.

But before I update my driver; want to explain what happened as
did not see same in others.

Few days ago got that error message nv4_disp and infinite loop,
and sys restarted or I did, and all came up fine.

now, 3 days later; at today; i turn on sys, and in 6 or so
attempts all different problems occur;

on one start up 3 beeps, pc runs, no video

on another sys starts up; video fades (the video of windows xp
starting)

on another 3 beeps and nothing.

all of these hang sooner or later somewhere in the start up
sequence.

So, my question is;

for this nv4_disp error; I see the resolution is to update the
graphics driver; but do any of these start up problems above make
any sense; occuring 3 days or so after the error message, no
troubles until today on start up?

Thank you,
Casey

Hi Gerry,

I missed a question you had there; all the errors posted were all I had
including today; so whatever I showed is what I had total. I thought was
weird no errors with all those unsuccesful starts today.

Nothing unless it happens again.

Although BSOD (Stop) errors are recorded in Event Viewer it can be
helpful to take a copy of the Stop Error report as the information is
not always identical. The line under the Error code and parameters can
give the name of the problematic driver. Many users overlook this detail
(if it is there) when reporting the error.

It could be and it could be due an overheating issue on your system
or a corrupt/damaged driver for a hardware!.
If you want to get the whole picture try to get the error messages
in the event viewer and have a peek in the Device manager to see if
there is malfunctioning devices or a conflict somewhere.

Have a look in the Event Viewer and send us the error messages you
will see there in your next post:
Open a Notepad, customize or minimize to the taskbar as you will
need it later for this step to copy the error message on it.
Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr.msc click [OK] you will get the Event viewer control
Panel. click on each of these:
Application
System
Security
Look in the right Pane/window for error message with red (X) or
Yellow exclamation mark /!\ , double click each one to get more
info about the causer.
On the Event error properties message you will see:
Up Arrow
Down arrow
Two pages
Click on the two pages to copy the error message then bring up the
Notepad you opened earlier and right click on the first line and
select Paste from the list, this will paste the error message on a
Notepad.
Please don't duplicate the error message one of each kind will be
sufficient. HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in

Please we need just the error messages with Red (X) and don't
repeat the error, just one of each kind and post them back in your

Hi Nass,

Thanks for your help! My question is; that today my system had
many problems starting up; approx. 7 attempts; and all starting
differently; some with 3 beeps at first; some loading all the way;
then monitor shutting down; or keyboard is not working etc.. so
had many problems today; and it was about 3 days ago go the
nv4_disp error.

No mention of the error in the start up problems; so my question
is - before i install the correct graphic update driver for my
system; is my problems I'm having today starting up; caused from
this nv4_disp problem?

thanks
Casey

Hi, I read thru other entries to see resolution for this error
message nv4_disp.

But before I update my driver; want to explain what happened as
did not see same in others.

Few days ago got that error message nv4_disp and infinite loop,
and sys restarted or I did, and all came up fine.

now, 3 days later; at today; i turn on sys, and in 6 or so
attempts all different problems occur;

on one start up 3 beeps, pc runs, no video

on another sys starts up; video fades (the video of windows xp
starting)

on another 3 beeps and nothing.

all of these hang sooner or later somewhere in the start up
sequence.

So, my question is;

for this nv4_disp error; I see the resolution is to update the
graphics driver; but do any of these start up problems above
make any sense; occuring 3 days or so after the error message,
no troubles until today on start up?

Thank you,
Casey

Hi, funny I was just coming to write something and I had not seen
your entry.

The start up this morning was after being off 10 plus hours; and so
the system was not hot.

One more note; is the last thing i recall doing before shutting down
last nite; was the microsoft updates (i get notified;and then i
decide when to install, and installed last nite.)

But what happened on start up.. all differnt problem in all those 7
or so times.. some times on one; graphics quite fade. most time
though; message on monitor saying monitor was alright; but on other
starts or even same; would either shut down; or just go blank, not
blue screen blank, just blank as if off.. the 3 beeps at start up;
got that twice.. the system having apparence of being up; but not at
all; no keyboard access; mouse not moving, etc.

so these were some of the variuos things occuring while trying to
start up today; again after being down over 10 hours; so the system
was not hot.

Thanks,
Casey

I said it Could be not It must be and one of many options before seeing the
OP Event Viewer log!.

The OP having trouble with TrueVector from Zone Alarm which causing the
fading issue.

Also I think the RAM may be having a bad bits. I seen before that an
overheating (by burned CPU thermal Component) can cause a self destruct for
the operating system like some software doesn't work or error message of the
same type suddenly occurs ..etc.

If you noted the Time not set right or the computer time or the Battery is
dead / outdated. Either the OP need to Sync the Time/Date or try to replace
the CMOS batter if the computer that older than 3yrs.

Casey or is it Tapero?

Updating drivers costs nothing.

Do you have another working monitor you could use to test whether your
monitor is on the blink? Nass thinks the cause of fading is a software
problem but the way forward is always to eliminate possibilities. That's
why you should update your Nvidia drivers if there something available
more up to date.

attempts all different problems occur;

on one start up 3 beeps, pc runs, no video

on another sys starts up; video fades (the video of windows xp
starting)

on another 3 beeps and nothing.

all of these hang sooner or later somewhere in the start up
sequence.

So, my question is;

for this nv4_disp error; I see the resolution is to update the
graphics driver; but do any of these start up problems above
make any sense; occuring 3 days or so after the error message,
no troubles until today on start up?

Thank you,
Casey

Hi Nass,

Thanks for your help! My question is; that today my system had many
problems starting up; approx. 7 attempts; and all starting differently; some
with 3 beeps at first; some loading all the way; then monitor shutting down;
or keyboard is not working etc.. so had many problems today; and it was about
3 days ago go the nv4_disp error.

No mention of the error in the start up problems; so my question is - before
i install the correct graphic update driver for my system; is my problems I'm
having today starting up; caused from this nv4_disp problem?

thanks
Casey

It's reading like a hardware problem, either the power supply, or the
nVidia card.

Hi to all who helped in this thread.

I got very overwhelmed when the realization hit that I've got perhaps major
problem and no way to repair or replace, outside of what I can work on.

So, I just came back and reread the whole thread again, and gained a better
overall picture and you all are just so awesome to help as you did.

I was able to reseat the memory today. Been on some 12 hours no problems
yet; but yesterday video went off an on in a seconds time; did that twice;
then 20 mins later did same but along with sys freeze; again only lasted a
second or two, and that occurred 3 times.

So today reseating the memory.

I found the two fans are running; but I doubt they are doing a good job as I
see scorch or brown marks on top of the pc cover inside.

Yesterday I tried to install the nividia graphics and on install gets to a
message saying my sys has nothing compatible with that driver, which is
incorrect; so that's an area to look into if winds up to need the driver.

As since the monitor went on and off yesterday and while doing so did not
click; as should do if off; made me think, this is really a memory problem.

I'm concerned about the 102 error code as one of you said is something to be
seen to if continues. Haven't seen it since the 14th.

I've got a lot to do as I see from the thread.

This sys is probably quite old; so on the time issue; where was recommened
may need battery; probably do. My date and time I see is fine; but I imagine
is about an internal date and time.

I just wanted to come back and thank you all very much! I have so much to
work on and just thank you for all the resources and your support.

As did yesterday; will see how sys goes for a day or so and see if runs
without error.

I have a dsl situation; which causes another event error; but need to find a
dsl tech site to troubleshoot that problem; and event viewer shows an error
every time I connect the dsl; and not sure if that is a true problem; or not.
I connect fine. But may be messing up files.

I can not turn off tea timer in spybot; though I've set it to off in
advanced and anywhere else i saw to be off all the time; and no startup; but
regardless; starts up in tray all the time. It's a problem for me; due to
the pop up messages; and not knowing some times; whether to allow or
disallow. I don't like that it messes with the registry and wish I could
turn it off; and that's a day at that forum.

Zonealarm; as mentioned above has a problem and don't know what it is; but
since the original blue screen of death nv4_disp error; it appears that zone
alarm has somehow forgotten all my settings (which it never has done); and
has been popping up for things it should not. I also updated it about two
weeks back, but it didn't start popping up questions for allow/deny for
everyday things until the bsod; after that i mean. I always update and it
always recalls settings and as said it did so until the error; then started
pop ups for many normal routine things.

So I appreciate the link you gave for that situation on true vector problem.

Again, want to thank you, I just felt overwhelmed on the day started this
thread when realized the situation.

I'm home, and it's either net or sleep; as am home all the time; and am a
moderator..which is why I slipped used two names here in error; one my name,
one my staff name. So, can imagine, without a pc.. without something to do;
don't know what I'd do, and I guess there's millions like me out there..lol

Am going to work thru the things to do but may be a day or so.

Thank you again, you all are wonderful to give of your time and knowledge
and skills to help me and many others.

blessings,
casey

Are you sure they are scorch marks, and not just built up dust?

You might try downloading SpeedFan. This has a temp monitor built into it
which should give you an idea of any system temps.
Also reads HDD SMART information.

It could be your CPU heatsink needs a clean and more thermal paste applied.

Does the room temperature vary much? Do problems occur more on hot days
rather than cold.
Yesterday I tried to install the nividia graphics and on install gets to a
message saying my sys has nothing compatible with that driver, which is
incorrect; so that's an area to look into if winds up to need the driver.

Go to the nvidia website and download the latest drivers, then run the setup
file.
If the MS "found new hardware wizard" appears, cancel it and let the nvidia
installer do it's job.
As since the monitor went on and off yesterday and while doing so did not

New motherboard battery is needed usually if your BIOS keeps reseting
itself.
It wouldn't cause the problems you are having.

Not likely.

Why a day? Just uninstall Spybot S&D and if you want, reinstall it and
choose the option to not use teatimer.

As a guide. When you install a program say yes, if you are asked out of the
blue to allow an entry, say no.
If you want to install an activex component, say yes

<snip>

Have you run chkdsk /r to see if there are bad sectors on the disk. Whoever
made your hard disk will have a utility to check the disk.

It does sound like hardware, but till you can swap the PSU or Vid card to
check, it is hard to eliminate anything just yet.
You can try memtest, or microsofts memory diagnostic to see if there is a
problem with the memory.

Look closely at the capacitors, (cannister shaped things) on the
motherboard. And odd smells, or bulging/leaking capacitors are a bad sign.

File corruption can also be a sign of impending HDD failure, so I hope you
are backing your system up.

I refer to your reply to "Hi Nass" regarding your start-up problem.
I have had an identical start-up problem for some months and my event viewer
did not show any error messages. Over the period I tried many things in
order to fix the problem without result.
Recently I dusted the interior of my computer including removing and
cleaning the fan and refitting it. Somehow this has completely rectified my
start-up problem and it has not re-occurred.
It's worth trying.
