Blue Screen HELP

I have a “Blue Screen†Issue. I keep my system (XP Home edition with all
current updates and patches) running all night to get automatic updates, and
this AM I had a Blue screen with an error saying that there was an device
driver stuck in a infinite loop. The issue appears to be related with file
nv4_disp.

Technical information:
STOP: 0x000000EA (0x86B4B1D0, 0x86C03E88, 0xF79D4CBC, 0x00000001)
nv4_disp
Beginning dump of physical memory
physical memory dump incomplete

* The computer will start in Safe Mode
* Resetting to a previously working restore point (working two days ago)
does not help.
* I worked on my taxes (TurboTax) last Friday, and both the computer and
Internet were working fine.
* No further manual installations were performed since then (I am not sure
about automatic updates)

The nv4_disp files seem to be located in the following folders ….
C:\Windows\system32,
C:\ServicePack\I386
C:\I386 and
C:\Drivers\Video

What do I do with this information ??

Is this file a driver ?

How do I fix this. ?

The solution to try is to update the drivers for your Nvidia graphics
with new ones from the Nvidia web site. What version is your Nvidia
card. You should not let Microsoft update the drivers.

Thanks - Now for a few dumb questions.

How did you know thiese were Nvidia drivers (was it the nv4 designation ?)

How does one determine the version of the Nvidia graphic card.

How does one up-date the drivers ?

Are there more than one ?

I am not trying to be obtuse. Is there a place one could go for a simple
tutorial as to how this is generally done.

Your feedback is appreciated.

Yes

How does one determine the version of the Nvidia graphic card.

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about
your computer:Everest Home Edition (freeware)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight
required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this is
fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup messages
longer reports will irritate other newsgroup subscribers.

In Everest expand Display, PCI / AGP Video and post the details..
How does one up-date the drivers ?

Downloads drivers from:

Gerry:

I used the Everst utility (which worked fine).

Thye PCI / AGP Video entries were:
nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Video Adapter
nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 3D Accelerator.

I assume that these are the products I reference when I go to the nVIDIA
site the links you provided take me, and follow the instructions.

Thanks for the information and for the links to the utility, nVIDIA site,
and to the instructions.

Unless I hear otherwise, I will give that a try tomarrow, and regardless I
will post the results.

Thanks Again
