Numerous animated objects

I'm using Office 2000. I have a slide that needs about 40 animated objects
(lines, groups, etc.). The Custom Animation dialog box is tedious to use
because I have to keep switching back and forth between tabs for each object.
Is there an easier way to order the objects and choose the effects and
timing? Also, are there additional options for animation in later versions
of PowerPoint?

I don't think there's any way around all the tabs in Office 2000. But yes,
there are way more animation options in PPT 2002 and 2003, and I find the
animation task pane in those versions less painful than the tabs in previous
versions.
