how do I repeat custom animation effects in PowerPoint?

I am creating a presentation that will be interactive and animated. I use
hyperlinks to provide the interactive effect, ie the viewer can click on a
topic (object/text will have an associated hyperlink) and the presentation
will jump to a slide in the same presentation that addresses the viewer's
topic. A return button (hyperlink) will take the viewer back at the
beginning. Problem is that if there is custom animation and the viewer then
returns to the slide that has custom animation -- it doesn't animate on the
second pass. I'm using PowerPoint 2007, SP1. Suggestions?

The normal fix for this is to put a blank slide right before the slide
with animations. Set the blank slide to automatically advance after 0
seconds. Then link to the blank slide instead of the "real" slide. This
works because advancing to a slide resets the animations while
hyperlinking to a slide does not.

G, that's not a bug, it's a feature! I am grateful that the program behaves
that way. If I created a menu-driven slide deck with a hyperlink back to a
main slide, my audience would be ready to shoot me if it had to sit through
animation repeatedly--animation that might be fine if seen once, but dopey
by the fourth time, and grounds for violence by the 20th time.

So I for one am glad that the program behaves the way it does. I'm sure that
there is a way to work around this if necessary, but first I would ask you
to scrutinize your intent: why is it that you want the animation to repeat
every time the user returns to that slide? If you deem the repeat to be
necessary, tell us what you are hoping to accomplish, and we'll probably be
able to figure it out with you.
