Numbers Lock

Every time I restart my laptop, it restarts with Numbers Lock on. This did
not happen in association with any other changes, new programs, settings
tweaks - seems to have been spontaneous.

It means I have to turn NumLk off in order to enter my password and sign in,
which is tolerable when I am at the keyboard, but not so nice when I am
logging on remotely!

Have diligently done virus scanning and other maintenance tools.

Is this a setting I can change? Is it representative of some more dire
corruption?

It's a BIOS thing.

Go into BIOS and find the appropriate page and item to change. If you have
your manual, open it and read which setting to change.
