Number of Hyperlinks in a Word 2000 file

Hi,

I am trying to find out how many hyperlinks can be created and still work in
a Word 2000 file/network of files.

I work with an editing project that deals with 76 Word documents which all
contain hyperlinks as sources in the endnote section. These documents are all
going to be placed on a CD. This CD will be a backup of our website,
therefore this CD will contain all of the 76 Word documents with all of their
hyperlinks as well as additional Word files that link these 76 documents to
several Word files which serve as dummy webpages.

So, if I have a CD where one Word file (this particular webpage) contains 76
hyperlinks to 76 other Word documents (containing anywhere from 3 hyperlinks
to 40 hyperlinks in the endnote section), will I get an error about the
number of hyperlinks?

My overall goal is to determine if Word is the best application for our
purposes. Has anyone got any suggestions or can I provide more information
for anyone? Help?

FWIW, I have a document I use daily that contains 331 hyperlinks (to Web
pages).

Note that I don't actually *use* the links (Word balks at that, for some
reason); it's the "cheat sheet" I use when working in the NGs, an exhaustive
list of all the Web articles I commonly refer users to. I have another,
similar document with links to KB articles.

Hi,

Have you ever encountered a limit to the number of pages in a single Word
document, especially when there are a lot of section breaks (85)?

Users report documents of 10,000 pages or more (primarily text--adding
graphics and tables would add to complexity). I don't think there's any
limit to the number of section breaks, either, though of course every one
you add is one more incentive to trichotillomania. <g>
