Hi everyone

I am new to this support site .

At logon we run a script whhich in turn runs 2 NTVDM's(cmd.exe) in own memry
space , the prompts close after running , however when you logoff or shutdown
it prompts you to close a box pointing to C:\winnt\system32\cmd.exe , this
only occurrs on numerous Windows XP sp2 machines. Ms has a article in this ID
892520 , I have contacted them and they mailed me the hotfix but this does
not resolve the problem.

All comments\suggestions welcome

NTVDM does not launch itself when you start cmd.exe. It only
becomes resident when you launch a 16-bit application. It then
stays resident until you reboot the machine. This is normal and does
not cause any problems. If you wish to kill it then you have to
terminate it manually through the Task Manager or with TaskKill.exe.

Thanks,

When you logon a bat file runs launching a 16 bit application in a NTVDM , I
appreciate the fact that it closes and shuts down at shutdown , any idea why
I am receiving the c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe box at logoff and shutdown ,
this only occurrs on XP pro SP2 not on our machines running Windows 2000.

If you get a cmd.exe box at logoff then you have some
logoff script on your machine, or perhaps your logon
script never finished its job. This is particular to your
own environment - it does not happen with standard
installations. You need to check your scripts and perhaps
also your scheduled tasks.
