want timeout auto-logoff, not by screensaver or energy mgt

When I select "prompt for password on resuming from standby or hibernation", or the similar option in the screensaver controls, the computer wakes up with the "this computer is locked; only [last user] or an administrator can unlock it.
This is not good when users forget to log off, because it requires my time to fix it. I would like to set an auto-logoff timeout on inactivity, so that the machine would wake up with the "friendly logon.
I have looked in group policy [XP Pro] but have only found "force logoff after allowed hours." (Close but no cigar.
How do I do this? -Eric

Hi

Here is a couple of other ways to do it:

A)

Winexit.scr in the Win2k3 Server RK kit (will work on Win2k and WinXP at least)

Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&DisplayLang=en

(The kit will install on WinXP or later)

If the users are non-admins on the local computer you must add Set Value and
Create Subkey permissions for the group Everyone on this registry key:
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion

How can I use the WinExit screen saver without granting Admin rights?

B)

You could create a scheduled job on each computer that logs the user off after
a set amount of idle time:

Most excellent information! I am scared to touch the registry so I think I'll try to create the scheduled job. Much to learn...Thanks -Eric
