ntoskrnl.exe problem

I was working on my friends computer getting rid of her adware . I was using
ad-aware and when i restarted my computer to rescan with ad aware i got a
message that said Windows could not start because of a missing or corrupted
ntoskrnl.exe. This file should be reinstalled. now the problem is she Has a
pirated version of xp professional. Is there a way to uninstall professional
and re-install the home edition. Or is there away I can replace the kerrnal
with a home edition disk?
