NTLDR Problems

My computer says "NTLDR is missing - Press Ctrl-Alt-Del
to restart your computer". I have copied new NTLDR,
NTDETECT.COM from the CD to my hard drive and still get
the same error. System will only boot with a floppy made
from another computer. Help!!

what about the boot.ini

Those three files are needed to boot Windows NT. NTLDR,
NTDETECT.COM & BOOT.INI

Also make sure you are using the correct version for the
version of Windows you are using.

I have verified that my boot.ini is correct, correct
disk, partition numbers, etc. in the file, in addition to
copying new NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from the CD, but still
get the error. Thoughts?

If you're sure boot.ini is correct, it might be time to do an
extensive virus scan on the drive to see if perhaps something has
modified the boot sector. If no infection is found, you might have
to use the recovery console to see if you can repair what may be
wrong.

Your boot.ini file may be incorrect or pointing to the wrong partition
where ntldr is located. Post the contents of the file here. The
boot.ini file is a hidden system file that should be in root directory
of your boot/system drive.

Sorry, but that's wrong. It's the master boot record (MBR) that reads
NTLDR, and NTLDR then reads boot.ini. If the error message is about
NTLDR being missing, then either the drive is not the master drive, or
it isn't marked active, or the MBR is trashed (or not a win2k/XP MBR).

Start the recovery console, and 'fixmbr'.
