NTLDR missing, please help!

I have a laptop that has WXP Professional. I am trying
to reinstall WXP Professional from CD. Each time it
starts to install, it stops and gives me the error "NTLDR
is missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" What can I do
now to get this thing going?

The NTLDR file is part of the Windows boot config file. I
believe it is located in the i386 folder of your CD. You
may have to try to navigate to it or else your CDROM or
hard drive controllers need to be installed first. If
Windows is looking for the NTLDR file and cam't find
it... it means it can't access the drive. See if you can
browse to the I386 folder. Make sure that the CDROM drive
letter you select is correct (it may have changed to a
different letter while not in windows).

Thanks for the advice, but the problem is I can't get
into Windows at all. If I start up without an XP disk, I
get the same error as when I try to boot from the disk.
So basically there is no way that I know of to get into
any of the folders. Can I install the CDROM or hard drive
controllers anyway? I'm really stuck here...

Since no one else is responding... I'll do my best to
help. If you can run the Win XP installation CD, you can
probably access the i386 folder during the CD
installation process. if it can't find the file, it may
prompt you (or show you another button) which allows you
to specify where the file is.

Depending on what the problem is, it might be that
Windows cant even recognize your hard drive, therefore
can't find the NTLDR file it need to load windows, or the
file is corrupt. In any event, it IS on the CD in the
i386 folder. Try to do a custom install, meaning follow
the promts slowly that allow you for advanced options.
I'm sorry but I can't remember the exact process but
there IS a way.

if you have an IM and want to message me, I have access
to various messengers and I will try to walk you through
it (email me your IM ID misschif(at)misschiff(dot)com and
i will try to reach you on your IM if you want)

I am not trying to be facetious, but do you by any chance
have a disk in the floppy drive? If you do, it will give
you that same error. Remove it if you do and you should
be ok.
