I just had the same problem today. It happened while i was doing chkdisk. I am using 2003 server, will this article apply too? It says it only apply to 2000 not 2003
Go into your bios and change the boot order and set it to
boot from cd if that does not boot then go to
microsoft.com and download xp startup disks and boot that
way that will allow you to view your cdrom and cd D:i386
in i386 type winnt.exe that will start the xp installation
and you can either format the entire drive to ntfs or fat
or even potions of the drive
Make a Windows XP/2003 boot disk for your respective OS's.
Format a floppy in GUI mode, dont quick format the machine.
Copy NTLDR, ntdetect.com and boot.ini from the root of C to the floppy
Boot the floppy and if the machine boots, copy those files to the root of
the C drive on the down machine.
