PC crashed while applying blaster patch - now NTLDR is missing

In the middle of installing the blaster patch for XP Pro,
the PC crashed (power surge). Upon reboot, the following
error was encountered:

NTLDR is missing
Press any key to restart

Performed all the troubleshooting steps recommended by
Microsoft to fix this problem, but still receive the same
error. I've already performed the following steps:

1\ Boot PC using XP Setup Disk, enter Repair mode, select
the installation I want to repair, copy the ntldr and
ntdetect.com from Setup Disk to Hard Drive, confirm the
boot.ini exists and is not corrupted, ran chkdsk and
bootcfg /list all with expected results, rebooted, same
error.

2\ Enter repair mode as above, ran fixboot and fixmbr,
reboot, same error.

The Hard Drive contains a clean install of XP Pro using an
NTFS filesystem, therefore, I have NOT tried booting the
PC with a Win95 or 98 startup disk and running sys c:,
should I?

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick S.

I had that message once and tried everything to work out
what the problem was, then I discovered I still had a
floppy in my disk drive. and got that message instead of
the usual non system disk error. have you checked that
there is no disks in the drive?

Thanks Dianne, I'm sure there are no disks in the floppy.
I think the problem is with the Master File Table MFT and
can only be fixed by ordering a utility from Microsoft.
One other thing I will try is to create an XP boot disk,
starting WinXP and try reinstalling the patch. At the end
of it, the patch may clean things up including the MFT.
