NTLDR is missing...

Recently, after using "System Restore", on start up screen, instead of
"Windows", I got "NTLDR is missing, please press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" -
after I restart computer, same happens.

Now, seeing how I don't really care about this particular computer and don't
intend on repairing it, as it is old, but I am keen on keeping the files on
the hard drive (family pictures, BTEC coursework)... is there any way to
recover them (for exp. using another machine?)... Can someone please explain
this to me?!

Just means you cant boot without doing some repair work but if you take the
HD out and install it as a slave drive in another system you should be able
to pull off what you need.

Hi

Try this to access Windows:

Boot with your XP CD in the cd drive. Select 'To repair..' by pressing 'R'.
When in the Recovery Console type the following:

"copy X:\i386\ntldr C:\" - without the quotes. Where X is the letter of
your CD drive and C is the letter of your system drive. Take the XP CD out
of the cd drive and reboot into XP normally.

Hi - sorry to hijack this thread.
I too have the same problem (sony grt716s / XP home).
My laptop came with windows preloaded (so no XP disc) and doen't have a
floppy drive to create a startup disc.

Any suggestions?
