I'm having some trouble formatting / partitioning a hard-drive (HD)
using Window's Disk Manager.

My system specs are below ....
MOB - ASUS P4P800SE Socket 478 Intel 865PE ATX Intel Motherboard
OS - Windows XP SP 2
HD1 - IDE Seagate 200 gig
HD2 - Serial ATA Western Digital 80 gig <---- this is the on I am
having a problem with)

I am able to create a partition on HD2 using the Disk Manager Wizard
with the FAT32 file system. However when I try to create a partition
using NTFS file system, the disk manager gives me a prompt at the end
that reads "The format did not complete successfully." I've tried
Googling for an answer but have had no luck. I built the machine
myself, however I am at a loss for why one file structure works and not
another. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start by downloading a drive diagnostic utility from the drive
manufacturer's site and run that to test the drive.

Rock,
I've run the necessary drive diagnostic utility from western digital.
There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. As I mentioned
before the Logical Disk manager doesn't have a problem formatting a
FAT32 drive. In fact after the formatting i am able to copy files into
and out of it so the drive is functioning. I only run into a problem
when I try to format a NTFS file structure. At wits ends.

Might I suggest
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/bootitng.html

Extract it onto a floppy and start comp with floppy........when the screen
show say no to the install and it will run Partition Work.
From there find that HD and see if you can format it to NTFS..........or
partition and format.
Be sure to read the readme file for all of the options available. The
download is 30 days free.
