How to get XP to recognise a HDD

B

bean

My computer has three hard drives

HD1 Maxtor 40gb 0,0
HD2 Western 30gb 0,1
HD3 SeaGate 30gb 1,0

HD1 is xp compatible and currently being used
HD2 and HD3 are formatted with a filesystem that is XP incompatible and
no icons appear in the "my computer" area to represent these two drives.

I want to be able to use HD2 and am happy to format it and such as it is
empty anyway so.

How do I make WinXP see HD2 to allow me the opportunity to use it?

You have to format them before windows will asign them a drive letter.
Go to Administrative tools , computer management , disk management and see
what they are.

Hi Bean.

Windows XP has a great logical disk management, to partition and format
your drive. It's really simple to get to it, click control panel,
administration tools, computer management, and find it in the tree. You
will see your physical drives as recognized by Windows XP. You will find
detail in help how to delete the incompatible partition, and to create a
new one, with FAT32 or NTFS file system.

Best regards,

Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management, select Disk
Management and look lower right for the graphic of the drive.

There you should be able to see the partition on the drive as an
'Unknown' one. R-click and you should be able to delete it. Then
r-click the resulting 'Unallocated space' and 'Create Partition'
