We've got an 80 gig hard drive NTFS, with 45 gigs free,
reporting reads only 10 free gigs. We recently deleted a
35 gig backup.bkf file, but have been unable to recover
the space, and XP does not see that space as freed. It is
not a hidden file, I've run CHKDSK, rebooted, etc... any
suggestions without reformatting? We have lots of patient
data on it that can not be moved, as well as very
specialized medical software that can't be ported to
another machine. Thanks!

Make sure that the file is not still sitting in your Recycle Bin.

It's not in the recycle bin... was too large, at 35gigs,
for it anyway, so I outright deleted it from the drive
entirely, and can't find any footprint of it..
