ntdlr error

[Hawaiian Tim]

I have an error at boot says ntdlnr or ntdlr is missing
please reinstall. Could someone tell me exactly what
these files are. I have found them with a dos reader that
reads ntfs off disk in dos so what folder should I copy
them to? Thanks....Tim

Is the DOS disk your using a floppy that is still in the drive when you
boot?
If it is, ummmm remove it.

No. when I start win xp I get that error befor i Tryed
the dos reader I can get the file from one of my other
computers copy it but I dont know what it is and where to
copy it to

Excuse me?
So your telling me that if a non-bootable disk is in the floppy drive and
you boot XP you don't get a 'ntdlr' error?
hmmm, maybe YOU should do some research before going after somebody. My
reply was very possibly the right answer. Check MS webpage, read other RECNT
threads pertaining to this exact same situation.

ntldr - not ntdlnr is the initial boot loader for XP. It is on the XP
CD in the i386 folder. You can Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard
Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead of Setup, take the immediate R for
Repair. Assume any password requested is blank, and TAB over.
and use
COPY x:\i386\ntldr C:\ntldr
where x is the CD drive letter (you may have to try something not what
you normally have for that)


But if that is missing other files may be too. Especially if this was a
dual boot system, and you have changed the initial boot partition by
setting the one where XP is as active - in that case you need to change
it back (say with a Win98 startup floppy, use its FDISK and 'set
active')
