NTDLR

I recently had my computer repaired and a new graphics card installed by a
reputable firm. For a couple of days it worked fine although the PS slots
would not function. However, after that things started to go wrong. It would
only boot off the CD and before going into Windows messages that certain
files were missing appeared on the screen.

I reformatted the hard drive reinstalling Windows XP Service Pack 2. Things
were again fine for a couple of days, but after that problems again happened.
Now on switching the computer on it starts with checking the system health
then moves on to another page which states,
Primary Master Disk HDD S.M.A.R.T. Capability .................... disabled
Primary Slave Disk HDD S.M.A.R.T. Capability .................... disabled
Underneath it gives the PCI Device listing and at the bottom “Verifying DMI
Pool Data†then “Boot from CDâ€. After a couple of minutes it gives me the
windows Setup Page with three choices
1. Setup Windows XP
2. Repair Windows XP
3. Quit Setup by pressing F3
On Pressing F3 the computer shuts down and starts up normally. Once having
opened Windows if I choose Restart it will close down and start up normally.
Only when it has been off over night will it not start normally.

Twice after “Verifying DMI Pool Data†“NTDLR missing†has appeared. The
computer will not then go on to the CD. I then have to switch it off and on
again. Recently that message has been appearing more often. Today at the top
of the second page the following message was displayed:

Couldn’t open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) Bank 0 1 2
NTDLR: Couldn’t open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)
Sec Slave Disk: CD-RWATA 33

I have no operating system on the Slave disk. I just use it to back-up
files. Do I have to reformat the Main Hard Drive to solve this problem? Is
there some file named NTDLR on the Windows System Disk I could copy over to
the Main Hard drive?

Any advice would be appreciated.

You're asking a Windows question in a discussion group dedicated to the .NET
Framework. I'd suggest the you post in a Windoes XP group, as that's what
you're working with.
It's too late now, but you shouls have returned the computer to the
"reputable firm" who did the work and request that they fix the issues. Now
that you've modified the software environment, you're on your own.
There are numerous XP groups, all beginning with:

microsoft.public.windowsxp

I'd suggest:

microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware
