ntbackup to file causes reboot

I am having a problem backing up one of my W2k servers. I use NTBACKUP to
backup the server to a file on a server dedicated for backups (these files
are later put on tape). The backup server is rebooting about 6 minutes into
the scheduled backup time. This interupts the backup process causing a
delayed write failure. I am receiving the following error on the backup
server (the backup begins at 9:30):

Event ID 6008: The previous system shutdown at 9:36:36 PM on 10/24/2005 was
unexpected.

I do not see any events preceeding this error.

The other server that is being backed up later in the evening has no problems.

The backup server is a W2k SP4 machine with the sole purpose of receiving
files and then backing up to tape.

The server I am trying to backup is a W2k SP4 machine running SQL 7 and
stores the company's shared files.

The server for which I have no problems is our DC and Exchange Server (also
W2k SP4).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I stayed logged on to the backup server to see if there was an actual
powerdown occuring. This morning the account was still logged on but I got
the same 6008 event. However this time it also logged a Save Dump:

Source: Save Dump

Event ID: 1001

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000050
(0xbf0cbf0c, 0x00000000, 0x804928e1, 0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000
[v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\MEMORY.DMP.

Hope this helps narrow things down.

Thanks.
