NTBackup util

I am using NTBACKUP util to backup my Win2000 server (SP4)
to a Sony DDS3 tape drive. I have created a daily backup
jog and save the script. The backup works when the jobs
are manually started. But when i schedule the job over
night the job fails to start.

I have read the MS docs and apply the suggestions. With
out success.

Is NTbackup any good for scheduled backups?

Not only is ntbackup "any good" for scheduled backups; it
is the preferred method for scheduled backups! Some questions:

- Did you check the Event Viewer?

- Did you check the backup logs? They are kept here:
C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data
where %UserName% is the name of the account used by the Task Scheduler.

- Did you check the Task Scheduler log? (It's under "Advanced" in
the Task Scheduler).

- Does the account you specified for the scheduled task have
sufficient access to the files & folders you wish to back up?

Hi Brenden,

I had that problem too. I just fixed it by assigning an admin account instead of using the default system account. (advanced tab of scheduler) to the task and stopping and restarting the task scheduler service (my computer properties, manage, services).
