ntbackup in XP home does not recognize DAT tape

I have Windows XP Home running on my system. It works fine except I
recently found out that the CD had ntbackup available. I installed it
per Microsoft s directions. ntbackup will start and allows me to select
what to backup, BUT the only option for saving the backup is A:\.

I have an Archive 4542NP 4mm DAT DDS-DC tape drive that worked fine
under Windows 98 and Linux.

ASUS motherboard
1G Memory
667MHz Pentium
Adaptec 29160N SCSI controller
2 Quantum SCSI Hard Drives (wide)
CD/DVD player (narrow)
CDR (narrow)
HP Scanner (narrow)

SP2 installed

BIOS recognizes the Archive DAT Drive
Windows recognizes the Archive DAT Drive

How do I get it recognized by NTBACKUP?

I think it is a SP2 issue, but there are no FAQ's on Microsoft's web
site that address this issue that I could find.

TIA
Ramer

Use the Backup in Wizard mode: when it comes to the screen to name the
backup, you can 'choose' the location: even if it is currently showing as
A:\

When I get to the Wizard screen "Backup Type, Destination, and Name" the
backup type is grayed out as file, Choose a place to save your backup is
set as A:\ and will not accept tape0 for a destination. I can change
the name of the file.

System Hardware device driver shows the tape drive installed and says it
is working. Other post have mentioned a "Removable Storage Manager"
that I do not seem to have (or don't know where to look.)

In the device manager I cannot change the symbolic name for the tape
drive, it is grayed out as tape0. Do I have to mount it or give it
another name?

Any help will be appreciated.

RSM is in Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management -
