NTBackup.exe system state and cloning

I have 5 OEM portables with unique XP Pro Product Keys.

I have one of the five in a state I would like to clone to
the other 4, and do not have ready access to 3rd party
Symantec Ghost imaging software

Can I use NTBackup with System State to accomplish clone
via restore, and manipulation of computername on 4pcs
target PC?

Initial system was "activated" via OEM image explode and
prep, and Product Key via unattend.txt internal setup file
uponn OEM image explode...

Will restored PC's have all the same Product Key when I am
done, and will this violate license\not accomplish
goal\Break OS on four PC's that restore with SystemState
is run on?

I have reviewed 299840, but that article is not clear on
usage of sysprep, product activation, and NTBackup wrt
cloning prepped systems

No, it's my opinion that ntbackup.exe using ASR will not do what you want to do. The floppy will see different hardware IDs, the main one being the HDD volume ID.

Best to use sysprep, better still contact the OEM and ask them what to do.

Not using ASR.

Please re-read post. Backup is complete system with system
state.

Restore is complete overwrite,, with system state.

One way that would probably work is to restore the system to
each PC, then do a repair installation of Windows XP on each PC.
This allows you to enter the new software keys.

If you already have Service Pack 2 installed, do the repair
installations with a slipstreamed CD that has SP2 integrated
already.

There may be shortcuts, but I don't know them. At least this
method has the advantage of adapting to different hardware.
